In the middle of the limestone sea lies a maze of the old shepherd's paths connecting the villages of the heart of Old Montenegro. In the Middle Ages, when great empires conquered and divided the Balkan Peninsula, pinching off tidbits of fertile land on the shores of Lake Skadar and Zeta valley, karst faults and almost uninhabited rocks remained the only shelter for indigenous people of Montenegro.
Today there are only subtle shadows of the past - the ruins of the church and the citadel, stone walls in between the natural pillars, covered with young oak forest.. perfect fusion of history and nature, where Nature is on a roll. On the way there or back we will take a break near old ponds in the midwood and explore a cave with a water spring in the foothills of the fortress.
